Agartala:  Besides, persuading for appropriate steps against BJP Tripura president Biplab Deb’s threat of EVMs manipulation in upcoming assembly poll by the ruling CPI(M), the party activists held protest rallies across the state today demanding inclusion of Voters Verified Paper Audit Trial (VVPAT) in the EVMs to confirm the voters. Followed by CPI(M) Tripura state committee complaint, party general secretary Sitaram Yechury yesterday wrote to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and sought action on the controversial statement of BJP president Biplab Kumar Deb. He alleged, ‘president of Tripura unit of BJP Biplab Kumar Deb has in a public meeting announced that cast direct aspersions on the objectivity and fairness of the Electronic Voting Machines and dared the chief minister of Tripura to lodge a complaint against him”. Mr Yechury said, In the light of widespread apprehensions regarding the neutrality and fairness of EVMs that are being voiced across the country and such outrageous statements destroy the foundations of the Election Commission’s declared objective of conducting free and fair elections. Pouring inputs to the allegation of manipulating EVMs in Uttar Pradesh assembly poll, Mr Deb threatened in a public rally on April 12 last at Teliamura of West Tripura that in next year Tripura election whoever vote in whatever party, ultimately it would register in the accounts of BJP candidates.
