Voting commences for Uttarakhand, UP second phase Assembly polls


Lucknow/Dehradun: Amid a tight security blanket, polling today began in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. Voting started at 0700 hrs and would continue till 1700 hrs, for the second phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and the single phase Uttarakhand House. This time, 69 assembly seats are going to the polls due to the death of BSP candidate in Karnprayag. The polling in that constituency will be held on March 9. The mandate will be known on March 11. For 67 seats in second phase in Uttar Pradesh, a total of 2,28,57,081 voters, including 1.04 crore females and 1,068 third gender, can exercise their franchise in 23,693 polling booths. There are 721 candidates in the fray. More than two lakh security personnel, including over 800 companies of central forces, have been deployed.
