Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today inaugurated online the 229th branch of HP State Co-operative Bank at Thachi in Shimla Rural Constituency. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said banking system was the backbone of any financial system and availability of banking facility led to growth of economy. He said the State Cooperative Bank since inception has been involved in overall development of the state, especially rural areas where people have tremendous faith in functioning of the bank. Congratulating people of the Thachi area, he said the facility will give a boost to agricultural activities along-with opportunity for traders to park their funds safely for transaction through bank. He asked people in the state to use ‘Himpesa App’ for money transaction through mobile. This App could be used for transfer of money, paying bills and other banking purposes. He lauded the bank for issuing 50,000 Kisan Credit Cards and asked the bank to ensure that it was available with every farmer of the state. HP State Cooperative Bank chairman Harsh Mahajan said the bank earned profit of Rs 162 crore during this year and every new branch earned profit. Newly opened branch at Jalog in Shimla attracted a deposit of Rs 18 crore in the first month of its opening.
