Lucknow : To ensure transparency in 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the Election Commission (EC) is planning to videograph polling at every booth. For the first time, digital maps of all polling stations will be prepared so that the process could be started for holding videography. The Election Commission has plans to bring as many booths as possible under webcasting for better monitoring of these on the day of polling, officials here today said. The Commission has directed printing of tentative voters' list by September 1. The administration is working towards removing bogus voters from the rolls, adding new ones and removing other errors. All claims and objections on the tentative list will be accepted and examined till October 24. After this, the list will be re-updated by December 5 and final version will be printed on January 2, 2017.
According to officials, in a review meeting organised in Delhi earlier this month, the senior officials of the commission expressed the intent of conducting videography at each booth during the assembly election and mentioned about making arrangements for it. Till now, videography used to take place only at some of the sensitive booths and all the highly sensitive ones. As per the plans, polling station data mapping will take place using Google Maps. Through these digital maps, common voters and officials involved in the conduct of the election will be able to access the entire data of every polling station in the district. Officials said, "Preparation for videography at all polling booths has been initiated. Digital maps of all polling stations in the district will be developed. Maximum number of polling station will be brought under webcasting." There are around 14 crore voters in the state.
