UPSACC honours lensmen for their live photo of police atrocity on aged typist in Lucknow

DSC_4958Lucknow,Sep 21-Uttar Pradesh State Accredated Correspondents Committee(UPSACC) today honoured young photo-journalist Ashutosh Tiwari, whose live photos had gone viral two days back and gave justice to a 65-year-old typist in the state capital when a police sub-inspector broke his typewriter. The young photographer clicked the photos, which earned him a worldwide laurel with leading media organisations like Washington Post and BBC carried out his story and interview. UPSACC president Pranshu Mishra along with other members of the journalist committee honoured the photographer with a citation. Another photographer Deepak Gupta, who was present on the spot, was also honoured by the UPSACC. Mr Mishra lauded the achievement of the young lensman saying that the live photos have earned him a laurel which everyone journalist desire in his life time. He also announced that the names of the two lensmen would be sent to the Press Council of India(PCI) for the national awards. The victim Krishna Kumar for the past 35 years was sitting outside the GPO and earning his livelihood through typing hindi letters. But on Saturday last, a police sub-inspector Pradeep Kumar reportedly abused the elderly man and kicked the typewriter repeatedly till it broke into pieces for not vacating the place. Ashutosh, who was at the spot immediately clicked the photos. Later his friend Deepak too joined him. After photos of the incident went viral on social media, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav immediately ordered evening ordered the suspension of the sub-inspector.He also immediately ordered the District Magistrate and Senior Superintendent of Police to visit Mr Kumar and hand him two new typewriters. Meanwhile, The CM today announced Rs one lakh compensation for Mr Kumar. The photos of the incident made a record hit of over one lakh in Facebook while it was retweeted by more than 10,000 twitter users. Bollywood actor Parneeti Chopra also retweeted the photos.
