UPPCL launches subsidised LED bulb distribution for registered power consumers in UP

LED_bulbsLucknow, Aug 1 - Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited(UPPCL) has started distribution of subsidised LED bulb in the state in a phased manned. While the scheme was launched in Kanpur last week, in the state capital, it would be launched from this week. In remaining 16 districts, it would be launched very soon. UPPCL officials told UNI that consumers in Lucknow with zero arrears in their electricity bill will be given LED (light emitting diode) bulbs at subsidised rates on producing a copy of the latest electricity bill and a proof of identity. An LED bulb worth Rs 400 will be given at Rs 100 under the Centre's domestic efficient lighting programme (DELP). There is also a scheme of payment of the LED through easy instalments too. The scheme has begun in Kanpur. Under DELP, Lucknow, along with 18 other districts will get LED-based home and street lighting. A domestic consumer having a meter load of up to 2KW will get five LED bulbs at subsidized rate while those having higher meter load will be given a maximum 10 LED bulbs. The agency identified by the Centre will distribute the subsidised LED lights to consumers at billing counters of Lesa. The Officials said a call centre would also be set up to redress LED-related complaints and if an LED bulb fuses, it will be replaced. Each LED bulb distributed under the scheme, as per the guidelines, will have a unique number and logos of the distribution company and the distribution agency to indicate that the bulb has been designed specifically for the programme. Bulbs available in the open market will not bear the specific identity marks.
