Lucknow : To thwart incident like Bulandshahr gang rape like on the highways, Uttar Pradesh would deploy a fleet of over 3,000 SUVs for night patrolling on the highways of the state from October. At present, a police force of 542 stations across the state are patrolling the highways after the horrific gang rape of a mother and her daughter was witnessed on NH -91 in Bulandshshar on July 29. Official sources here today said that police has identified ten most sensitive and crime-prone highways in the state. From October, 3,200 SUVs would roll out across the state, which will patrol these highways and other roads from 2200 hours to 0430 hrs or until sunrise, sources said.
UP police was trying hard to generate a sense of security among commuters, especially women, no matter if they are on highway or colony lanes. State DGP Javeed Ahmed has issued a clear message to all ranges and zones to ensure that an FIR is lodged when women complaints. Stringent action will be taken against officers if we received complaints from victims, he had stated. According to the statistics, the world's largest police force — UP police — is working with 40 per cent less strength than required. Though the force has recently recruited 38,000 home guards, who are on under training, and around 3,000 sub-inspectors are also about to be commissioned.
