UP on high alert over I-Day celebrations

Lucknow :Uttar Pradesh police has sounded 'high alert' particularly on the Indo-Nepal border in view of the 70th Independence day celebrations. All the 75 districts in the state have been alerted while security at public places, including bus and railway stations, airports, malls and other market places strengthened. Special security have been made in sensitive religious places like Ayodhya, Varanasi, Mathura besides in the communally sensitive, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Aligarh, Kanpur, Bareilly, Moradabad and Azamgarh. State Director General of Police (DGP) Javeed Ahmed said here today that an SOS has been sent to all the districts for taking precautionary measures during the Independence Day . He said that precautionary security measures have already been taken at the airports and railway stations. Visitors passes have been cancelled till August 22 in Lucknow and Varanasi airports while at prominent railway stations, passengers are checked along with their baggage when they enter the platforms. Central Intelligence agencies have also issued security advisory during the Independence day celebrations in the state. Meanwhile, a report from Sidharthnagar, quoting SSB sources here, today said the entire Indo-Nepal border in under high alert in view of the possibility of sneaking of foreign terrorist through the porus border. Official sources here said that the entire 550 kilometers long Indo-Nepal border in UP has been sealed and people crossing it are being strictly checked since the past couple of the days. All activities on the border were being recorded in the CCTV cameras and sniffer dogs engaged to track explosives. Security personnel were manning the main roads and even other places through which people can cross the border.
