UP govt increases tax on petrol, diesel

pump1Lucknow, Jul 22- Uttar Pradesh government has decided to increase the taxes on petroleum products leading to rise in the price of petrol and diesel in the state. Earlier, the government was collecting 26.80 per cent tax on petrol and 17.48 per cent on diesel, but due to reduction of prices of the commodities by the oil companies, the state was facing loss in the revenue collection. The fixed tax on the products would increase the rate of petrol by Rs 1.54 per litre and of the diesel by Rs 1.37 per litre. Now, the government has decided to levy fixed Rs 16.74 tax per litre on petrol and Rs 9.41 per litre on diesel. Sources here today said the government order in this regard would be issued very soon. However, the move by the state government has been opposed by UP Petrol Dealers Association alleging that there are anomolies in realisation of taxes by the government. Association's president B N Shukla said here that while the tankers getting supply from the Mathura Refinery from the public sector oil companies, have to pay Rs 2 per litre as entry tax into the state the private oil companies do not have to pay for it. " There are several other anomolies too which should be asolved soon or else the petrol dealers would be forced to go on strike," he said.
