Reviewing the development of Gomti Riverfront, state Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan today issued a strict warning to make sure that the silt excavated during the cleaning of the river Gomti did not flow back into the river with rain water. Expressing displeasure on delay in beginning of solid waste management plant, he instructed to ensure that it commenced in the next one week and the waste of Lucknow city is managed through this utility instead of piling it up anywhere in the city. He directed that 24-hour, shift-wise work should be done to expedite the remaining tasks of development of Gomti Riverfront. The Chief Secretary was reviewing the progress of Gomti Riverfront here.He asked to prepare the estimate for construction of trunk drain on both banks of the Gomti river and ensure that the construction was started soon. Mr Ranjan also directed to shift the police post situated on downstream of left embankment of the Gandhi Setu on Gomti river. Principal Secretary, Irrigation Deepak Singhal informed that the silt and sludge dug out from the river was far from riverbank. He said the sludge was completely saturated at the time of digging and therefore, now it was fully compact and there was no chance of it flowing back into the river. He told that the level of diaphragm wall on both sides had been kept higher than the natural level and a large quantity of mud and soil would be required for the development of embankments, hence, the compact sludge was not being moved elsewhere. It was informed that construction work was going on for 24 hours continuously on the diaphragm wall, which was being constructed by M/s Gammon India Ltd. Eleven rig machines have been received, of which seven machines have already been deployed. Work has begun after establishing concrete batching plant on left side, while foundation of concrete batching plant on right side has been laid. Officials of Gammon India Ltd informed that the plant would be set up by July 11.
