UP govt announces judicial probe into Varanasi stampede incident



Lucknow :  Uttar Pradesh Chief Minster Akhilesh Yadav has ordered a judicial inquiry into the Varanasi stampede which had claimed 25 lives. A statement issued by the CM's office here late last night said the inquiry would be conducted by retired Judge of Allahabad High Court Justice Rajmani Chauhan. The one man judicial panel has been asked to submit his report within two month's time. Stampede had broken out on Rajghat Ganga bridge in Varanasi on Saturday, when thousands of devotees of Jai Guru Dev were heading to attend a religious congregation. People jostled with each other following a rumour of bridge collapse. The Chief Minister had announced Rs five lakh as ex-gratia for the families of the deceased.
