UP BJP demands CBI probe into Kanshi Ram

5036085511Firing another salvo at BSP president Mayawati, Uttar Pradesh BJP today demanded recommendation of CBI probe into the mysterious death of BSP founder Kanshi Ram, 10 years back. UP BJP president Keshav Prasad Maurya will give a letter to UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, urging him to recommend CBI probe into the death of Kanshi Ram in 2006. Mr Maurya told UNI here today that the letter to the CM would be sent by this evening. BJP has raised suspicions over BSP founder Kanshi Ram’s death and had repeatedly demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter since past fortnight.

The BJP had already announced that if it comes to power in the state, its government will recommend a CBI inquiry into Kanshi Ram’s death. Mr Maurya said he was making the demand for the CBI probe on the basis of letters he received from family members of Kanshi Ram and several BSP leaders, where they have purportedly said the BSP founder may have been murdered. Mr Maurya, however, refused to disclose names of those who wrote the purported letters. “I am demanding that the Akhilesh Yadav government recommend a CBI probe into Kanshi Ram’s death. If the state government doesn’t do it, the inquiry will be ordered when BJP comes to power,” Mr Maurya said. Several MLAs and senior leaders have quit BSP, alleging that Mayawati is taking money for giving election tickets. Now, by demanding a CBI inquiry into Kanshi Ram’s death, BJP is trying to hit the Dalit votebank of BSP.
