UP assembly sitting extended for two days on BJP pressure

59_09_03_54_BJP--621x414Lucknow, Aug 18 -Buckling under the pressure of BJP, the Uttar Pradesh government has extended the ongoing monsoon session by two days. Decision regarding this was taken in the Business Advisory Committee in its meeting here today. A senior official in the Vidhan Sabha secretariat said here that all the parties unanimously decided to extend the session by two days. “It will now continue till August 25,” the official said. In the earlier schedule the sitting was slated till August 21. The BJP had staged a dharna inside the well of the House for over eight hours after adjournment of the House for the day on Monday demanding that this session should be of 10 days The party again raised this issue through Point of propriety. Leader of BJP legislature party in Vidhan Sabha Suresh Kumar Khanna said that the Rule 14 of the Procedure for Conduct of Vidhan Sabha proceedings says that Government should summon the House once every two month for a tenure of minimum 10 days. “The Government had summoned this House after four months and 14 days. Going by the rule book the House should be held for minimum 20 days. But the Government has summoned it for just six days,” he said. Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey said that this issue could be best dealt in the Business Advisory Committee meeting and the committee will take a final call.
