UP 3rd phase Assly polls: 46 per cent voting till 1400 hrs on 69 seats amid minor violence

[caption id="attachment_23376" align="alignnone" width="300"]<br><br><br><br>Lucknow, Feb 19 (UNI) Amid reports of minor clashes in Etawah and Barabanki, the polling for the third phase of elections in Uttar Pradesh on 69 Assembly seats of the central parts of the state was underway on a peaceful note with at least 46 per cent of the voters exercising their franchise till 1400 hrs today. A report from Etawah said that stone pelting incident between SP and BJP supporters was received from Katiyapur booth in Jaswantnagar Assembly seat in which two people were injured. Several vehicles were damaged in the stone throwing incident in which Shivpal Singh Yadav's car was also damaged. Katiyapur is the native village of BJP candidate Manish Yadav, who is pitted against Shivpal. Though police officials of the districts deny any major incident but additional police were rushed to control the situation. In another similar incident in Barabanki, SP and BSP supporters clashed in Deva area during the polling. But timely intervention of the police saved the situation from going out of the hands. During the polling, a homeguard jawan in Hardoi and a polling personnel in Zaidpur in Barabanki died due to heart attack. Reports said due to lack of development, a couple of villages boycotted the polling in Hardoi, Maninpur, Unnao and Sitapur districts besides, newly wed couple, attired in their marriage dress voted in Barabanki, Kanpur (Dehat) and Unnao districts during the polling. In Lucknow, in order to attract the voters, the EC this time decorated the polling booths besides offering tea and snacks to the voters at several booths. Besides, in some booths children coming with their parents were offered games under the supervision of senior officials and security personnel. Saifai, the native village of Etawah witnessed a beeline of VVIPs voting when the Yadav family comprising Mulayam Singh Yadav, his two sons, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Pratik Yadav, along with their wives Dimple and Aparna exercised their franchise. Though other members of the Yadav family also voted in Saifai, but Shivpal Singh Yadav, was busy going to most of the booths and has not cast his vote yet. In Lucknow, Union home Minister Rajnath Singh and his family members, BSP President Mayawati along with her close aide Satish Chandra Mishra, Union Ministers Kalraj Mishra and Uma Bharati exercised their franchise. State Chief Electoral Officer(CEO) T Vekentesh told UNI here that the polling was peaceful and hoped that it will cross the 60 mark and create a record of sort. He said though the polling percentage in Kanpur was bit low but hoped that people will come out and vote in the later part of the day. In 2012 Assembly polls, the average polling in these 12 districts, which went to the polls today, were 59.96 per cent and in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections was 58.43 per cent. State Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Daljeet Choudhury said the polling was peaceful and no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the 12 polling districts. According to the EC, though the polling percentage was around 46 per cent till 1400 hrs, but officially till 1300 hrs it was 39.21 per cent while at 1100 hrs it was 23.84 per cent. Sitapur has the highest percentage of 11.65 in the first two hours of polling while the lowest was 8.13 in Etawah. The polling percentage in these districts were Aurriya- 39.17, Barabanki 44.33, Etawah-39.10, Farrukahbad- 38.50, Hardoi- 39.74, Kannauj-44.00, Kanpur Dehat- 38.03, Kanpur city-34.69, Lucknow-36.43, Mainpuri -37.10, Sitapur 44.07 and Unnao-38.17. <br><br><br><br></div></div></p></div></div></div><div id=
