Two killed, 16 injured as Pakistan targets border hamlets in Jammu

Jammu, Aug 28: Two civilians, including a woman, were killed and 16 injured as Pakistan resorted to heavy firing and targeted bordering villages in Ranbir Singh Pura Sector and Arnia sub-sector along the international border in the district of Jammu and Kashmir.


"During midnight, Pakistani Rangers resorted to unprovoked small arms firing initially and mortar shelling at around six BSF Posts and civilian areas including Nawapind and Abdullian areas" police sources.


Pakistani Rangers fired 82 mm mortars, police sources said, adding, "Two civilians, including a woman, were killed in the firing. Sixteen injured have been rushed to hospital." "BSF effectively retaliated to the firing while intermittent firing was in progress," they added.


The deceased has been identified as Pawan Kumar, 55, resident of village Abdullian and Bimla Devi, 42, resident of Sai Khurd, Arnia. The injured were VDC member Layqat Ali, 30, Shahina Bibi, 60, Saleema Bibi, 28, Makhan Din, 26, Vicky Kumar, 25, Wariyam Singh, 30, Raj Kumar, 38, Ajit Singh 75, Vijay Kumar, 24, and Girdhari Lal, 40. Four of the critically injured have been referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital.
