Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) today suspended three Youth Congress activists who slaughtered a cow in public and cooked its meat and distributed it as part of the ‘beef fest’ protests organised in Kannur against the Centre’s ban on cattle sale for slaughter. Talking to newspersons here, KPCC President MM Hassan said Youth Congress President Rijil Makkutty and two others -- Josy Kandathil, Sharafudeen -- have been suspended by the party. It is to be noted that the the KPCC was forced to act against the Youth Congress activists following Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi's criticism terming the incident as 'thoughtless and barbaric'. Kerala Police also booked cases against those involved in the act under IPC Section 428 and section (II) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960.
