Tennis: Raja, Sharan win consecutive titles in UK

Mumbai : Promising Tennis players Purav Raja and Divij Sharan have clinched the men’s doubles title at the Aegon Manchester Trophy challenger tournament and the Aegon Surbiton Trophy challenger tournament in the United Kingdom. In Manchester, the Indian pair saved three match points to upset the second seeds Ken Skupski and Neal Skupski of Great Britain 6-3, 3-6, 11-9 in the final of the grass court tournament.

The following week in Surbiton, the Indian duo once again emerged victorious in the summit clash 6-4, 7-6(3) over the same top-seeded British pair of Ken Skupski and Neal Skupski. Speaking on the matches, Purav Raja said, “Grass is my favourite surface to play on. I have always had good results on grass in the past. It is the first time that Divij and I have won back to back Challenger titles against extremely tough competition.

By winning his eight challenger title, 97 ranked Raja has secured his place in the doubles top 100 ATP World Rankings. For Delhi based Divij Sharan, this is his ninth challenger title which takes him to the brink of top 100.
