Lucknow:  Applying Roli or Tika is not a new tradition in UP schools. Earlier, it was applied on the forehead of students on the opening day of school after summer vacations. Taking a cue, the state Education department has recently decided to bring in this old tradition. The department is of the believe that this initiative would attract students towards studies, school environment and as well increase the attendance in primary and junior high schools. Teachers of Primary and Junior High schools of Uttar Pradesh would be welcoming the students up to Class VIII in a grand way by applying "Roli" or "Tika" on their foreheads as schools are all set to reopen after summer vacations tomorrow. However, it has been made clear that it is not compulsory for students to apply it. Officials said from the first day of reopening of schools, the students, apart from distribution of uniforms, would also be given shoes and socks. Besides, the students would also be given books and copies for the academic session. The education department is making sincere efforts to provide all sorts of facilities to children under one roof in order to maintain the attendance of children cent percent. For that officials have issued a set of 10 points directives, including awareness campaign among parents and guardians, to send their wards to schools in all circumstances.
