SP turns 25; Mulayam says Akhilesh not UP CM face

Lucknow : Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav today announced that its Parliamentary Board and newly-elected legislators will choose the new chief minister after the 2017 elections for the Uttar Pradesh legislativeassembly. Two months ago, Mulayam himself had announced that Akhilesh would be the CM face of the party and had appreciated his developmental works. Mulayam also announced that SP would not go for any pre-poll alliances and will follow the precept of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia of 'akela cholo re'. "We had suffered a lot by going for alliances in the past but have learnt a lesson,''Mulayam told a news conference here. The SP president was miffed over media reports about the bickering in the state's first family. "Everything is fine within the family and during the past three generations, there was not even a single dispute," he asserted. Mulayam also took credit for the success of the SP -- which is completing 25 years on November 5 -- and said, “The party has attained its current position because of me”. However, he said he was depressed as he could not become PM. He hinted that a leader, who has now become his relative (Lalu Prasad) had opposed him bitterly and H D Deve Gowda became prime minister. The remarks came hours after Akhilesh said he 'might be cornered, but he will not lose the Uttar Pradesh battle.'
