Sonia orders probe into Haryana Congress workers

sonia-gandhiTaking serious note of clashes between rival groups of Haryana Congress that took place on October 6 at party vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s rally, Congress president Sonia Gandhi today ordered an inquiry into the incident. Senior party leader and former union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde was asked by Ms Gandhi to look into the matter and report to her at the earliest, a statement from party’s media department chairman Janardhan Dwiwedi said.

Supporters of former Haryana chief minister Bhupender Singh Hooda and state party chief Ashok Tanwar had attacked each other with lathis over mounting of posters and banners of their respective leaders near Bharon Mandir on the last day of Mr Gandhi’s Deoria to Delhi ‘Kisan yatra’ that kick-started the party’s election campaign in Uttar Pradesh. The clashes brought out to the fore the internal strife in the state unit of the Congress, which was disturbing for the central party leadership.
