Social media to have equal status with electronic, print media: Haryana CM

Chandigrah: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal today announced a slew of facilities and benefits for the journalists including giving equal status to the social media -- at par with the electronic and print media. The Chief Minister announced Rs 10,000 monthly pension for the retired journalists above 60. Besides, he announced that the journalists with minimum five-year experience would be accredited by his Government. For the accredited journalists, he announced Rs 5-lakh medical claim. These announcements were made by the Chief Minister at a journalists’ meet held here to mark the 50 years of the creation of Haryana. Mr Lal said,"social media platforms like Facebook,Twitter and Instagram have become vital and rapid news sources in today's world. Both the print and electronic media have limitations but the digital platforms’ reach is unlimited," he said. The Chief Minister added that the scribes had always played an important role in every situation. "Whenever the country has faced any emergency situation, they have used their pen as a weapon to bring the truth to the people.’’
