Six killed as truck rams into train in AP

Anantapur, Aug 24: Six people, including a Karnataka Congress MLA were killed and few others injured when a granite laden-truck rammed into AC coaches of Bengaluru-Nanded express train. The brakes failed at level-crossing near Madakasira of Penukonda in the Andhra Pradesh district in wee hours today.

The mishap occurred at around 0223 hrs when the train that was crossing between Rangepalli and Penukonda station, rammed by the lorry, breaking-open the LC gate, Railways officials said here.

Congress MLA Venkatesh Naik from Devadurga constituency in Raichur district of Karanataka and three others, travelling in H1-coach, apart from the driver and cleaner of the lorry succumbed to injuries on the spot. The injured were shifted to the Government Hospital for the treatment.

Three coaches were heavily damaged, including the coach in which the MLA was travelling after the untoward incident.. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock over the incident and directed the district authorities to take up rehabilitation and rescue works soon.
