Shramjeevi Exp blast: 1 convict given death sentence

Jaunpur : After a wait of 11 long years, a local court here today gave death sentence to one of the two accused in the Shramjeevi Express bomb blast case in which 14 people were killed and 90 others got injured on July 28, 2005. While the court had yesterday convicted one of the accused Mohammad Alamgir, alias Roni, the verdict on the other accused Obedurrahman, alias Babu Bhai has been postponed. The court would give the verdict on Babu Bhai on August 2. Additional District and Sessions Judge( First) Budhiram Yadav pronounced the judgement under tight security cover here today with giving death sentence to Roni. While, 56 witnesses deposed for Babu Bhai, 53 testified for Roni. The blast occurred in the general coach of the New Delhi-bound Shramjeevi Express at Hariharpur crossing between Harpalganj and Koiripur railway stations in the district.

During the investigation, it was found that terrorists from Bangladesh, Obedurrahman alias Babu Bhai, Nafikul Biswas, Sohag Khan alias Hilal alias Hilaluddin, Mohamammad Alamgir alias Roni, Doctor Sayeed, Mohammad Sharif and Gulam Rajdani were involved in the blast and the conspiracy was hatched in Rajsahi in Bangladesh. Police is yet to trace Doctor Sayeed while Gulam Rajdani was killed in an encounter. Mohammad Sharif was absconding for which help has been sought from Interpol. Four of the accused Obedurrahman, Hilaluddin,Nafikul and Alamgir were arrested by the police. But later Hilaluddin and Nakiful were shifted to Hyderabad for another terror case hence their trial is yet to be started.
