Search operation on, toll mounts to 25 in boat tragedy


Patna:  Even as 25 bodies have been recovered so far, the search operation for missing in yesterday's boat tragedy in Ganga near here continued since early morning. A team of 150 jawans of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) assisted by SDRF and district police was carrying out search operation, although no family had come forward to complain about their missing kins. In all, four bodies were recovered since morning, the authorities have counted only as victims of boat tragedy because identity of the fourth body is still to be ascertained. Senior Police Superintendent of Patna Manu Maharaj said that 24 bodies had been fished out so far and search for the others was continuing. The boat with designated capacity of 25, had capsized near NIT ghat on the bank of river Ganga here due to over crowding as more than 40 people in their rush to reach home had boarded it ignoring safety norms.
