SC reduces Cauvery water quota for TN from 6,000 cusecs to 2,000 cusecs

The Supreme Court today reduced to one third, the quantum of water for release to Tamil Nadu by Karnataka from Cauvery river between October 7 and 18 After hearing detailed arguments from all the respondents and the petitioner, a division bench, headed by Justice Dipak Misra passed the order directing the Karnataka Government to release 2,000 cusecs of Cauvery water per day to the neighbouring state between October 7 to 18.


Earlier, the court had fixed the quota of 6,000 cusecs for release of water to TN between October 1 and 6. During arguments, Karnataka assured the bench that it will abide by the earlier order of the court for releasing 6,000 cusecs water daily to the state in question until October 6. The top court had adjourned the hearing in the case till October 18. The bench during the course of arguments had slammed Karnataka for not complying with its earlier order in this connection.
