Recovery of body of ATM guard sparks massive protests in Srinagar

Srinagar :  Massive protests erupted in the down town area of the city after body of a guard of Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) was recovered at Karan Nagar near Government Medical College (GMC) in front of security force camp today. Hundreds of people, including attendants of patients in the SMHS held a massive protests in the hospital compound when body of ATM guard Reyaz Ahmad Shah was brought there by some volunteers. However, the body was later taken away by police to Police Control Room (PCR), where large number of people had also gathered raising 'pro-freedom' anti security force slogans. Giving details about the incident sources said that Shah, posted as guard at ATM, Habbal Kadal, had informed his family half an hour earlier that he was on way to Chattabal residence.

However, a three wheeler driver noticed the body in a pool of blood at Karan Nagar crossing in front of security force camp. Later volunteers working in SMHS hospital brought the body to hospital from where it was taken to PCR. Later people from Chattabal and adjoining areas joined the demonstration, raising 'pro-freedom' slogans and demanding arrest of all those responsible for the 'cold blooded murder' of Shah. Raising 'pro-freedom' slogans, the demonstrators demanded immediate arrest of the security personnel. Situation was very tense as more people from adjoining areas besides from the hospital also joined the demonstration against the security forces.
