Railways prepare for the second trial of the Talgo coaches this month at a speed of 180 kmph


Bareilly :  After the successful trial of Spanish-made high speed Talgo coaches on the Bareilly-Moradabad route on May 29, railway officials, are now preparing for the next stage of the trial between Mathura and Palwal probably on June 12. However, the authorities have disclosed that the nine coaches,which are under trial, would be returned to the Tanglo company once trial runs in the three phases are over. "The Talgo coaches have been provided to us only for trials and they will be returned soon. After analysing the reports of these trails, the railway board will take a final call on whether similar coaches will be manufactured in the country or they will be purchased from Talgo ," said a senior railway official here today. Meanwhile, the authorities are now preparing for the second phase of the trial probably on June 12 as announced by Minister of state for railways Manoj Sinha in Mathura last month. The coaches were shipped from Barcelona, Spain and vary in design and construction from Indian ones. "The carriages reached Bareilly on May 18 and were assembled at the railway workshop in Izzatngar. Talgo has given coaches for free and a team of 11 engineers from Spain are working along with a team from the Research Designs and Standard Organisation (RDSO) for successful trials here," said the official. The first phase of trials on the Bareilly-Moradabad route was successful at a speed of 115 kilometres per hour (kmph). Report of the first phase trials has been sent to the railway ministry which will give its approval for the trials for the second phase for the Palwal-Mathura stretch. The trains are expected to run at a speed of 180 kmph during the second phase. Already the country's only semi-high speed train 'Gatiman Express' between New Delhi and Agra runs on the stretch of Mathura- Palwal of the second trial run for the Talgo high speed train. The third and final phase will be between Delhi and Mumbai at a speed of 220 kmph. The proposed high-speed train is slated to run between New Delhi and Mumbai.
