Railways may regulate services during winter fog

Lucknow -  Anticipating foggy weather in the coming winter season, Railway authorities have decided to reduce the frequency of about 212 trains, including prestigious Rajdhani Express, Shatabdi Express, Duranto Express and several mail/express trains passing through Uttar Pradesh.


This is for the first time in the history of Indian Railways that the frequency of the prestigious trains including Rajdhani Express, Shatabdi Express will be reduced in winter season due to fog.


Additionally, several trains will be cancelled, partially cancelled and route of some trains will also be diverted.


Railway sources here today said that reduction in frequency of trains, cancellation, partial cancellation and diversion will be effective from January 8 to February 29.


Though several mail/express trains have been cancelled earlier during winters, Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains have been run even in extreme weather conditions. It has always been the priority of the railways to run these prestigious trains taking all the precautionary measures.


Kanpur-New Delhi Shatabdi Express (12033/12034) will be operational only on three days instead of present six days.


New Delhi-Lucknow Shatabdi Express (12003/12004) will only be operational on five days in a week which runs daily.


New Delhi-Bhopal Shatabdi Express (12001/12002) will run on five days and remain cancelled on two days each week during the period from January 8 to February 29.


Kolkata-New Delhi Rajdhani Express (12301/12302) will remain operational five days instead of six days in a week.


Sealdah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express (12313/12314) will operate only for five days in a week which runs daily.


Patna-New Delhi Rajdhani Express (12309/12310) will be operational for five days and remain cancelled on two days during the week.


Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express (12423/12424) will remain operational for about six days instead of present seven days in a week.


New Delhi-Sealdah Duranto Express (12259/12260) will be operational for only three days instead of four days in a week.


Other important trains whose frequency will be reduced in the winter season include Kamayani Express, Godan Express, Kushinagar Express, Mahanagri Express, Bundelkhand Express, Gomti Express, Taj Express, Mahabodhi Express, Magadh Express, Allahabad-Mathura Express. Other trains Anand Vihar-Rewa Express, Sharam Shakti Express, North East Express, Sharam Shakti Express, Swatantra Senani Express, Patna-Secundrabad Express, Lichchavi Express, Brahmaputra Mail, Lucknow-Allahabad Intercity Express and other trains.


The trains that have been fully cancelled from January 8 to February 29 include Howrah-Anand Vihar Express, Allahabad-Howrah Express, Agra intercity Express, Chhapra-Mathura Express and Ujjaini Express.


Railway officials said safety of passengers is the utmost concern of the railways and therefore it has decided to reduce the frequency of trains during the winter season. There will also be full cancellation, partial cancellation and change of routes of some of the trains.
