Lucknow: As part of the Congress party's campaign for the forthcoming UP Assembly elections, party vice-president Rahul Gandhi will embark on a ‘yatra’ across the state to raise the voice of farmers and labourers. Named as ' Kisan Yatra’, it is scheduled to begin from eastern UP’s Deoria district bordering Bihar on September 6 and conclude in Delhi next month. Sharing the schedule of the opening day of the yatra, Mr Gandhi tweeted, ''My yatra from Deoria to Delhi from September 6 is a campaign to ensure that the poor, farmers and labourers get their due out of the Government resources.

’’ The yatra by Mr Gandhi will be carried out simultaneously with the second phase of the Congress yatra, under the banner of ‘27 Saal UP Behal’. The second phase of the Congress yatra, which began on August 21, will conclude on October 9. Sources said that during his ‘kisan yatra’, Mr Gandhi would raise issues like floods, government’s failure to provide crop loss compensation and non-payment of sugarcane dues. The Congress party is trying to revive its fortunes in UP, where it has been out of power for the last 27 years.
