Lucknow,Dec 1 - Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has issued directives asking officers to register poor farmers in drought-hit areas and provide them seeds free of cost.
Mr. Yadav was reviewing projects being launched by the Agriculture department at his official residence today. He said,''in view of prevailing drought in 50 districts, all possible help should be extended to the farmers.''
“The agriculture department should ensure that the fruits of its schemes should reach the farmers. The seed distribution should be simplified,” Mr. Yadav said.
He suggested that the agriculture department should promote production of 'til' in Bundelkhand. ''This project should continue till 2016. The officials should also propose til processing units in Bundelkhand region so that farmers should get a good remunerative price,''he said.
"Government has launched many welfare schemes for the farmers and the onus is now on the officials to ensure that they get all the benefits of the government scheme.''
Mr. Yadav also suggested officials to start farm pond policies so that the farmers could get all facilities for irrigation. ''The state government has declared 2015-16 as Kisan Varsh (farmers’ year) and we want that farmers should reap a rich harvest of government schemes.
The officials fail to follow the guidelines would be punished,'' Chief Minister declared.
