Priyanka Vadra land case: HC warns CIS of court contempt for deliberately skipping personal appearance

Priyanka-GandhiShimla, Sep 11 - The High Court of Himachal Pradesh today directed the Chief Information Commissioner to remain present on October 9 before the court and explain why contempt proceedings may not be initiated against him for deliberately disobeying the court orders.
A division bench comprising Justices Dharma Chand Chaudhary and PS Rana passed these orders on a contempt petition filed by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The petition contended that the contemnors, including CIS Bhim Sen and State Information Commissioner KD Batish, had violated the orders passed by the High Court, whereby the execution and operation of order passed by the State Information Commissioner was stayed. It alleged that despite a stay order passed by the High Court in the writ petition filed by the petitioner, the State Information Commissioner proceeded with the matter and had summoned the record from the Deputy Commissioner Shimla, ADM Shimla and the Tehsildar Rural on August 20 in the matter pertaining to the information relating to land purchased by Ms Wadra for construction of a house in Shimla. CIS Bhim Sen, did not appear before the court today, as he was directed on the previous date of hearing. The other contemnor, SIC KD Batish was present in the court and sought two-week time to file reply to the showcause notice and the same was granted by the court.
