Lucknow: With elections to 402 assembly seats having been completed in seven phases in Uttar Pradesh, one constituency remains. Polling in the Alapur( reserved) Assembly seat in Ambedkar Nagar district started at 0700 hours today under tight security cover and will continue till 1700 hours. Enthusiasm, officials said, was witnessed among the voters since morning. Polling in the seat was rescheduled after the Samajwadi Party candidate Chandrashekhar died due to a heart attack during campaigning after the nomination process had ended. Election Commission of India had given special power to nominate any candidate for the contest to the SP, which fielded his widow Sangita Choudhury, who is pitted in a triangular contest with Bharatiya Janata Party's Aneeta and Tribhuvan Dutt of the Bahujan Samaj Party. Sitting MLA Bhim Prasad Sonkar had been denied the SP ticket this time. Earlier, the polling in this constituency was slated on February 27 in the fifth phase. The seven phase assembly polls in UP were held between February 11 to March 8 and the counting of votes would be held on March 11 for all the 403 seats.
