fire-s-650_070715083912Lucknow/Barabanki, Jul 7- The alleged murder of a scribe's mother by Uttar Pradesh police today look a political turn with the opposition parties criticising the state government and demanding a probe into the matter. She was set ablaze by policemen, yesterday. BJP MP Priyanka Singh Rawat blocked the road while the body was being taken for the last rites under Kothi police station making it difficult for police to bring the situation under control and open the blockade. However, the district administration of Barabanki deployed additional force in the wake of public outrages. The body was taken to the victim's hometown discreetly, via Satrikh instead of Lucknow-Barabanki highway. The last rites of the woman was performed under tight security. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has assured of an impartial probe into the matter as it relates to a death of the woman set on fire allegedly by policemen. He added that stern actions will be taken against the guilty. The woman, mother of a Hindi national daily scribe, was set ablaze by policemen, yesterday at Kothi police station. She succumbed to her injuries, at the government hospital in the state capital this morning. This was the second case of police atrocities against the fourth estate in UP. On June 1, a journalist was burnt to death by police in Shahjahanpur. UP minister Ram Murti Singh Verma's and some policemen were named accused in the Shahjahanpur journalist Jagender Singh's case but no arrest have been made so far. Opposition political parties in UP has demanded action against the Superintendent of Police of Barabanki besides adequate compensation for the family. In her dying declaration before the magistrate, the victim demanded capital punishment for the accused policemen, a SO and a Sub-inspector of the Kothi police station. She also charged that the policemen tried to rape her and when she resisted, the policemen poured kerosine on her and burnt her Santosh, a scribe and son of the victim, told UNI here today that it is unfortunate that despite an FIR, the accused policemen were yet to be arrested. Both the policemen have been suspended yesterday. " The police was biased against us and they even put my father in the police lock-up for 24 hours without any evidence. My mother was also tortured by the police leading to her death," he alleged. Meanwhile, UP BJP spokesperson Vijay Bahadur Pathak demanded strict action against the policemen including suspension of the SP of Barabanki. " UP government has failed to have its control on the police and now even the media persons and their family members are being attacked by the police," he added. UP Congress president Nirmal Khatri too criticised the act of the UP police and demanded action against the erring policemen.
