Prime Minister’s Office has also ordered an inquiry to fix the responsibility for causing the inconvenience to the people of the Union Territory. “The inconvenience caused to citizens in Chandigarh, especially shutting of schools due to my visit is regretted. It was totally avoidable,” a statement issued by the PM unit said. The statement comes on the backdrop of news reports that a cremation ground in Sector 25, located next to the venue where the Prime Minister was scheduled to deliver a speech, was converted into a makeshift parking lot. According to a report, Kargil war veteran Brig Devinder Singh who commanded a key brigade during the operation could not cremate his son in the cremation ground and the last rites had to be shifted to Mohali. The administration had ordered the closure of all state-run and private schools across the Union Territory in view of the Prime Minister’s visit.
