PM happy over BJP performance in MP civic polls

images (14)Bhopal, Aug 16 - Even as the ruling saffron party unfurled its banner over eight of ten civic bodies in Madhya Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gladness over the outcome. “I thank the state’s people for reposing their trust in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). I salute the efforts of the workers and party leaders,” he wrote using a social networking and microblogging service. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the party’s state unit feels touched by the overwhelming support. “Special thanks to my colleagues and workers for their untiring efforts in ensuring success. All credit goes to them. The results also sent a strong message to those indulging in politics of character assassination. People have rejected them again,” he added. Ujjain, Morena, Vidisha, Harda, Kotar, Bhainsdehi, Chakghat and Suwasra went to the BJP while the Congress took Sarangpur and an independent bagged Dhuvara. BJP candidates emerged victorious in the election for mayoral posts in Ujjain and Morena. Voting took place on Wednesday. Official sources said that Ms Meena Vijay Jonwal defeated her nearest rival Kavita Gome (principal opposition Congress) by 23,925 votes in Ujjain while Mr Ashok Argal humbled his nearest rival Mr Rajendra Prasad Solanki (Cong) by a margin of 11,026 in Morena. Ujjain has 34 BJP corporators and 14 owing allegiance to the Congress while the corresponding figures for Morena are 15 and 18.
