New Delhi: Opposition’s joint presidential candidate Meira Kumar would begin her campaign from Gandhji’s Sabarmati Ashram to get "strength" from the place associated with the great soul, as she said here today.
Addressing a press conference, Ms Kumar, whose campaign is likely to be kicked off on June 30, said everybody knew the significance of Sabarmati and "Sabaramati ka Sant’’(as Gandhiji was popularly called) who led the freedom movement and uprooted the mighty British Empire.
She would seek 'inspiration and gain strength' by beginning her campaign for poll to the country’s highest office from Sabarmati, she said when asked what would be her choice of place, as NDA candidate Ram Nath Kovind began his campaign from UP.
Ms Kumar, who has been jointly fielded by 17 Opposition parties, said she would soon meet every member of the collegium to seek support.
Presidential polls would be held on July 17, as new President has to be elected before July 25 when the term of the present incumbent expires.
