Opp. led by Sonia already "accepted defeat" on Presidential polls, says BJP

New Delhi: Amid intense talks about the ensuing Presidential polls due in July, the BJP today said that the opposition parties led by Congress President Sonia Gandhi have "already accepted defeat" for the same probably by a margin of 1,15,720 votes. A top BJP source maintained that the Congress president had convened a meeting of major opposition and regional parties including the Left on Friday to "select" an opposition candidate and by the figures of vote share these parties have in the electoral college, on the face value the opposition has accepted defeat by a margin of 1,15,720 votes. The top source in the saffron party skirted a direct reply to a question on whether the ruling NDA dispensation will consult opposition parties for a consensus candidate for the President's post and said, "there is still a long time to go for the same".
