One killed, 5 injured in police - BJP supporter clash



Ballia : A BJP supporter was killed and five others, including two policemen, were injured during a clash between BJP activists and police at Narhi police station in the district. The clash took place last night after the BJP activists led by its local MLA Upendra Tiwari sat on dharna demanding release of animal trader, who was arrested by police on Thursday last. The BJP supporters claimed that three people were killed in the police firing, but the police contradicted their charges. Superintendent of Police(SP) Manoj Kumar Jha said here today that one Chandrama Yadav was arrested when he was taking seven animals for slaughter. Immediately, the BJP activists sat on dharna at the police station putting pressure on the police to release the accused. However, BJP MLA Upendra Tiwari claimed that Chandrama Yadav had purchased the animals from a fair in Sant Kabirnagar district and he was arrested as he refused to give bribe. The MLA also charged the police of snatching Rs 50,000 from Chandrama. BJP district president Vinod Dubey said here today that the police suddenly resorted to lathicharge and later fired on them to disperse the peaceful agitation. The BJP activist killed in the incident has been identified as Vinod Rai(35) while three other activists are injured while three others are missing.
