Netaji Subash Chandra Bose's grandchildren, Jayanti Bose and Arya Kumar Bose, today met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav demanding setting up of a judicial probe to unravel the truth of 'Gumnami Baba' of Faizabad. They also sought chief minister's intervention to get work fast-tracked on the Faizabad memorial of Gumnami Baba, who many believe was Netaji living incognito in the eastern UP town, and bring an end to the mystery surrounding him. Among those who met the chief minister at his official residence were Arya, Jayanti and her husband Amiya Rakshit, research scholar Anuj Dhar and Subhash Chandra Bose Vichar Manch representative Shakti Singh.
"There is a lot of confusion as to whether Gumnami Baba was Netaji. There are theories like he died in an air crash or in Soviet Union. Coming from his (Netaji) family, it is not only painful but also a personal thing to discover what happened to him,'' Ms Jayanti said. Her brother Arya said "We want a thorough, impartial, multi-disciplinary probe into the Faizabad affair and establish the identity of the Baba. The involvement of this government to unravel the mystery has been unprecedented.
