NDA, UPA Prez candidates to visit TN tomorrow, to seek support

Chennai:  Mr Ram Nath Kovind and Ms Meira Kumar, Presidential candidates of the BJP-led NDA and the Opposition Congress-led UPA, were expected to visit Tamil Nadu tomorrow to seek support from political parties ahead of the Presidential election next month. BJP sources said here today that Mr Ram Nath Kovind would meet all the MPs and MLAs of both the factions of the ruling AIADMK, which had already extended their support to him. The AIADMK Amma camp led by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami was the first to pledge its support to Mr Kovind and it was followed by the rebel group of AIADMK PTA led by his predecessor O Panneerselvam. Later, 'sidelined' AIADMK Deputy General Secretary T T V Dinakaran, who had earlier agreed to stay away from party affairs and later retracted it saying he would continue to indulge in party works after his return from Tihar jail, also announced that as per the directives of party General Secretary V K Sasikala, who is in Bengaluru prison, the AIADMK Amma party has decided to extend its support to the NDA candidate. Mr Kovind was expected to meet the MLAS and MPs of both the factions in the city during his visit. Similarly, Ms Meira Kumar will also be visiting Chennai tomorrow. She would meet all the Congress leaders and their alliance parties, the DMK and the IUML. Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) sources said that Ms Meira Kumar will visit the DMK headquarters 'Anna Arivalyam' where she would meet all the DMK MLAs, including Working President M K Stalin and Rajya Sabha members to seek their support. After a meeting with Congress MLAs at the TNCC headquarters, Ms Meira Kumar was also expected to meet DMK President M Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence. Ms Meira Kumar was also expected to visit Puducherry on Sunday and meet the Chief Minister Narayanasamy and Congress MLAs to solicit their support for her.
