MP's Vyapam scam has links with UP

vyapam-scam1Lucknow, Jul 8 - The Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam or Vyapam scam has its tentacles in Uttar Pradesh too and around 36 students of five medical colleges have so far been arrested in the irregularities while at least four others were on run. The Madhya Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) is now focusing on rural parts of the state in search of candidates who played paper solver. After a first year medical student from King George's Medical University from Bhadoi surrendered before the court in Bhopal earlier this month, STF has now turned the heat on Prabhat Sharma from Deoria wanted in the case. Prabhat is now evading arrest and the STF team from MP have reached Deoria early this week to get hold of the accused, Police sources here today said. Prabhat is pursuing second year at Baba Raghav Das Medical College in Gorakhpur. The MP STF first reached the medical college but could not trace Prabhat and proceeded to his native village Majunahi in Deoria district, about 50km from the medical college. Here too, they could not find Prabhat, so they pasted a notice at his house declaring that property would be attached if he failed to appear before the investigating agency on or before July 27. Apart from arrest of nine candidates from KGMU at Lucknow, the MP STF has arrested four from Maharani Lakshmibai Medical College in Jhansi, five from Moti Lal Nehru Medical College (MLNMC), Allahabad and around 18 more from GSVM in Kanpur. In the last few months, the MP STF has visited Baba Raghav Das medical college in Gorakhpur three times in search of two more solvers. UP police sources here said the sleuths are also on the look out for another three students from Lalitpur and adjoining districts. A fortnight ago, Madhya Pradesh STF team arrested from Gwalior Satyendra, son of Santram Kurmi of Sultanpur, believed to be a student of BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur. On Saturday last, STF team from Madhya Pradesh handed over Anil Kumar, 1st year student of BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur to the principal of the college after interrogation. In Kanpur, according to a list prepared by GSVM medical college some 54 students were shortlisted for their alleged involvement in Vyapam by MP STF. These students belong to admission batches of 2009 to 2014. Though the GSVM authorities claimsed there was no official break-up available of the number of students arrested in connection with the scam, unconfirmed reports said 18 of them have been rounded up. Of the 54 students under scanner, 22, taken away by the MP STF, have returned to the campus while eight were missing. Some students got bail post investigation, while others are still in jail. At least four students of Maharani Laxmibai Medical College in Jhansi have been arrested in connection with the scam. One is absconding and another three are under police scanner. The Moti Lal Nehru Medical College (MLNMC) Allahabad has not remained untouched by the MP Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) or Vyapam scam. A total of five students were arrested by STF of MP last year for involvement in the scam and four of them are pursuing studies after bail. Documents of another 20 students of different batches pursuing studies in MLN medical college were sought for verification by the MP police over the past one year. Medical college authorities admitted that police of Gwalior, Rewa, and Bhopal had written letters to medical college authorities and asked to provide documents of 20 students of different batches for verification.
