Bhopal : The Madhya Pradesh Government today faced an embarrassing situation in the Assembly as ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member R D Prajapati raised the issue of illegal mining in Chhatarpur providing Opposition Congress members opportunity to create pandemonium and leading to an adjournment. Raising the issue during the Question Hour, Mr Prajapati alleged that mining mafia from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are engaging in rampant illegal sand mining in Ken River and extracting 8,00-1,000 truckloads of sand every day. He claimed that mining mafia resort to threatening villagers and alleged that two people were killed in firing by mining mafia four months ago.
In his reply, Mineral Resource Minister Rajendra Shukla denied that mining mafia had killed people. Mr Prajapati got agitated at the reply and demanded that the regime suspend the mining officer concerned for being in collusion with mining mafia and not acting on complaints. Several Congress member including Bala Bachchan, Ramniwas Rawat and Ajay Singh supported the member following which the Minister tried to compare royalty collection during Congress and BJP regimes. Congress members created a bedlam over the issue and asked Mr Shukla to give reply to the query.
