Amarkantak, MP:  Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today performed Maa Narmada’s ‘aarti’ at the Narmada River’s origin point in Amarkantak and launched mega tree plantation programme. Mr Chouhan and his wife Sadhna Singh performed ‘aarti’ and planted sapling in Narmada Mandir campus, an official statement said. “Trees are integral part of life. They provide us oxygen and control the Earth’s temperature. Each citizen should shoulder the responsibility to plant at least one sapling and protect it,” Mr Chouhan was quoted as saying while addressing the plantation programme. The regime is planting six crore saplings in 24 districts on both the banks of the Narmada River. Mr Chouhan has decided to launch the programme as a public campaign on the lines of the Narmada Yatra. Besides, Forest, Rural Development, Agriculture, Horticulture, Urban Administration, School Education, Higher Education, Jan Abhiyan Parishad and other government departments are playing a role in the campaign. Plantation work has been fixed from 0700 hrs to 1900 hrs. Necessary arrangements have been made to set Guinness World Record for a daylong plantation programme. Government officers and employees have been posted in required numbers at each plantation site for certification of planted saplings besides arrangements for photography and videography. GPS reading (Latitude and Longitude) is being taken site for identification of plantation site.
