Mayawati lashes out at PM for questioning BSP bank deposit after demonetisation, defends brother

Lucknow: Alleging a political vendetta to marginalise the opponents for their vested interests by the BJP, BSP supremo Mayawati today lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his party for raking up the issue of funds deposited by BSP, in the bank after demonetisation. "The deposits made in the bank by BSP were as per the norms and process adopted by the banks. The entire funds deposited were collected as donation from the members in the entire country," she claimed. Though alleging that the anti-Dalit mindset of BJP was behind the entire conspiracy with the help of Government machinery, Ms Mayawati, giving reason for delaying the deposits said, "as she was not in Delhi between August to November, hence the deposits were made after demonetisation, when she returned to Delhi from Lucknow in mid-November." Addressing a press conference, the BSP president said, "the entire deposited fund is honest money. Should the party throw that currencies?" It was reported that BSP had deposited around Rs 104-crore after demonetisation in a bank in New Delhi. She further said that during the same period, other parties too deposited money, but their accounts were not revealed. "Anti-Dalit mentality of BJP was exposed and some media people also danced to their tunes," she added. Defending her brother Anand Kumar, whose bank account had also shown deposit of over Rs 1.4-crore after demonetisation, Ms Mayawati claimed, "Anand, who is a businessman, followed IT rules and there was no question of any illegal money or black money". She also alleged that senior leaders of BSP were also being targeted by the Central Government and even being blackmailed, just to fall in line. Reiterating her demand from Mr Modi to disclose the bank accounts of BJP 10 months prior to November 8 and after demonestisation, she said the industrialists are enjoying the present regime, even as 90 percent of the population are facing problems. Presenting a smiling face and claiming that she was not at all disturbed with such allegation and instead, it will help her party to gain clear majority in the UP polls, the former UP CM charged, "BJP had always plotted against BSP and they have started it from the Taj Corridor scam and even went ahead in registering case against me in the disproportionate assets (DA). "During the last elections, Taj Corridor issue was raised as if I am big culprit. Taj project was worth Rs 175-crore in the 2002-2003 BSP regime, for which only Rs 17-crore was sanctioned. I did not give any order, my sign is not there. 'The scam is done by BJP, as the agency which was working was of the Central Government and BJP was ruling at that time at the Centre", she further said. BSP will get political mileage because of this BJP canard. "It is a gift for BSP and I am thankful to BJP leadership and PM," she quipped. Take more decisions like demonetisation, no one can stop BSP from coming to power in UP, she added.
