Mamata announces to intensify her agitation against demonetisation

Lucknow: All India Trinamool Congress president and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today said that she was not afraid of going to jail over the draconian decision of the Narendra Modi government on demonetisation and will intensify her agitation, till it was withdrawn. Though the rally against demonetisation was of Ms Banerjee, but it was the full show of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who did not attend, but all his close Ministers and supporters participated in full strength to make the agitation a success in the state capital. However the UP leaders, speaking on the occasion focused on the coming elections in the state, rather than speaking on demonetisation, claiming that Akhilesh government had done everything to get a second chance to rule the state. Ms Banerjee in her fiery speech, targeting only and only Mr Modi, said that she will not deter from her target till the demonetisation move was withdrawn and Mr Modi was unseated from the Centre. "The demonetisation was introduced without any preparation, which should be withdrawn immediately. I am not afraid of going to jail over the issue. It will also give me some time to rest," she added. "It is like a black emergency in the country and the country is heading towards a Presidential form of governance, where the states have been totally ignored. 'Blacklisting of the cooperative and district banks by the Centre during this demonetisation drive shows its clear motive that how this PM was ruling the country through dictatorial way," she said at the rally, attended by several senior AITMC leaders from WB and even from Punjab. Amid the protestors, who raised anti-Modi slogans, Mamata asked PM to disclose the properties and assets purchased by BJP, just before November 8. "We have information that several properties were purchased in Bihar, Delhi and other places by BJP. But, Modi is keeping mum on it," she said, when questioned about the details of 11, Akbar Road, Delhi property of BJP. Claiming that this fight against Mr Modi is similar to the freedom movement against the Britishers, the WB CM alleged that BJP has always created rift in the society through their communal motives. "My brothers and sisters of Muslims, Sikhs and Hindus of UP, you should unite and remove this Modi, who represents your state at the Centre for his anti-people move, which is not acceptable at any cost in democracy," she appealed. Commenting on the cashless society as demanded by Mr Modi, AITMC president questioned the people, "will people eat plastic cards in place of food. There are no banks in most of the villages, how will people purchase foods and other things for the family." She said in West Bengal, there is no bank or post office in more than 700 village panchayats, while in UP it is more than 70 per cent as there are no banks or post offices in 39,000 villages out of the total 56,000 villages." Demonetisation is a big scandalous story of BJP, due to which the unorganised sector has been badly hit, while unemployment has doubled in just 21 days.," she claimed. The WB CM also alleged that Modi government was threatening and blackmailing the opposition through CBI and other agencies. "We are not afraid of these agencies and will continue our tirade against them," she asserted.
