Lucknow:  Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court today directed the Centre to make all-out diplomatic and other efforts to secure the release from Pakistan jail of former Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav, who had been recently sentenced to capital punishment on espionage charges. “ Centre should make all efforts for release from Pakistan jail of the innocent navy officer. Centre should use diplomacy and international law so that Kulbhushan Jadhav was released from Pakistan jail at the earliest. It is the duty of the government to ensure that an innocent was not punished,” the court ruled. A division bench comprising Justices A P Sahi and Sanjay Harkauli issued notice to the Centre. Pakistan had alleged that Kulbhushan, who was sentenced to capital punishment by a court recently, was a spy of India. Lawyers in Uttar Pradesh, meanwhile, went on a day-long protest and did not work in support of their demand for the release of Kulbhushan Jadhav. They brought out a procession and even burnt the effigy of Pakistan.
