Mah CM makes statement on execution of Yakub Memon

images (1)Mumbai, Jul 30 - Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today announced in Maharashtra Legislative Council that Yakub Abdul Memon, a convict in Mumbai 1993 serial bomb blasts that killed 257 people and wounded more than 700 others, was hanged in Nagpur Central Jail. While making a statement in the House, he said after being awarded the death penalty by a TADA court, Memon had moved a mercy petition in the Supreme Court and to the President, but all his petitions were rejected by the authorities. Thereafter, Memon was hanged to death this morning in Nagpur Central Jail, he informed and said after postmortem, his body was handed over to his family members. Yakub's elder brother Suleiman took possession of the body and brought it to Mumbai, the Chief Minister said and added that he was buried at a burial ground in Marine Lines area of the city.
