Terming the surgical strike by the Army a delayed step, Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati today congratulated the Indian armed forces for the successful mission to wipe out the terrorist camps in PoK. "The action of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was justified but it was a delayed action. If these surgical strikes had been done after the Pathankot terrorist attack in January, then our 18 soldiers would not have been killed in Uri," she said in a statement here.

Ms Mayawati said every Indian is proud of the Indian Army act and such actions boosts the morale. All the borders with Pakistan should be strengthened so that the infiltrators are prevented from sneaking into the Indian side. However, the BSP president was critical on the statement of BJP president Amit Shah who had termed the attack a 'new rising of India (Bharat ka naya uday)'. "The act is total an army operation and making it political is very unfortunate," she said. Ms Mayawati said due to such political act, the situation in the Kashmir valley is disturbed for the past over 80 days and the present PDP-BJP coalition government has failed to restore peace there.
