Chennai: Two days after the Income-Tax officials raided the residential and business premises of Tamil Nadu Health Minister C Vijayabaskar and AISMK leader and actor R Sarath Kumar, the IT department today issued summons directing them to appear before the department tomorrow. Confirming receipt of summons, the Minister said he would appear before the IT department officials tomorrow and provide his explanation on the documents seized during the raids after several complaints of distribution of money to the voters of RK Nagar, where a bypoll would be held on April 12, surfaced. Yesterday, the Minister's father appeared before the IT officials at Trichy following the raids. The 22 hour long raids began early on Friday morning and ended on Saturday morning at more than 50 places and taxmen found evidence which pointed to more locations. Searches were also conducted at the MLA’s Hostel and at a Lodge in Egmore area of the city. During the raids the IT officials claimed to have found enough evidence of distribution of over Rs 89 crore by the AIADMK (Amma) camp to the voters of RK Nagar and the evidences were sent to the Central Board of Direct Taxes and the EC. The raids prompted the opposition pateis to cancel the poll process and disqualification of the candidate of the AIADMK Amma camp. Both Dr Vijayabaskar and Sarathkumar termed the raids as politically motivated. The Minister and the AIADMK Amma camp said the raids were instigated by the BJP Government at the Centre in a bid to cancel the elections and prevent the victory of their candidate T T V Dinakaran.
