India-US ties growing at 'same pace as in Obama Administration': Sushma

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today said India-US relations under the Trump administration were growing at the 'same pace as in the Obama Administration". Emphasising that there had been no change in the pace, she said that 'India and US have a relationship of mutual benefit.' The Prime Minister 'has spoken to President Trump thrice, the officials have also had talks with theirs on many occasions. Every interaction has been positive and good,' she said, noting that the US was India's major defence partner. 'And there has been no intimation from their side that might suggest diluting this special relationship we share,' to a correspondent's query on the state of India-US ties with the new Republican headed administration taking over. The MEA Minister was briefing the media on three years of the Modi government and highlights of NDA Government's foreign policy. On the Ministry's achievements, Ms Swaraj said the Ministry had simplified passport rules and there was 50 per cent increase in the number of applicants. Assuring that security of Indian nationals residing in foreign countries was the Government's priority, the Minister said 80,000 people stranded in abroad successfully brought back to India, in last three years. 'We have helped 80,000 Indians facing trouble abroad in the last three years,' she added. During the past three years, there had been a 37.5 per cent increase in FDI, she claimed.
